Nursery Staff Job Description

Members of the PHUMC Nursery Staff need to be caring, responsible, adults who work very well with young children and with nursery volunteers to foster a loving, Christian environment for the nursery. 

Nursery is provided during all worship services (currently 8:15am, 9:00am, and 11:00am) as well as Sunday School at 10:00am on Sunday’s. Nursery is also provided for many other church-wide programs and ministries.  The nursery opens 15 minutes prior to the beginning of a church function and will close about 15 minutes after the church function.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Prepare toys and activities for the children.
  2. Prepare all needed supplies, toys, and check in materials.
  3. Greet each parent and child as they arrive and have each child signed in properly.
  4. Interact with the children and keep them involved in activities that are age appropriate.
  5. It is recommended that at least one Bible story be read and that they listen to Christian music. Approved videos may be used on occasion.
  6. Check diapers regularly and change as needed.
  7. Ensure the proper check out procedures are followed.
  8. Ensure all equipment, floors, toys, and surfaces are cleaned according to the Nursery Guidelines.
  9. Ensure all toys and supplies are stored in their proper places.
  10. Follow all procedures in the Nursery Guidelines.
  11. Maintain a First Aid kit in the Nursery that is stocked with basic First Aid supplies.
  12. Stay informed of any allergies that children coming into the Nursery may have.
  13. Turn in time sheets to Church Administrator bi-weekly for Payroll.

Job Requirements:

Certification in child and infant CPR and First Aid
Pleasant Hill UMC Safe Sanctuaries Policy Training
Pass a Criminal Background Test and Drug Test
